Kabát: My biggest is regret is that we didn't make it to the cup final

Two weeks ago, just a couple of minutes after kick-off Péter Kabát suffered a serious injury which meant that his season was over. He watched the derby against ferencváros from the stands. After the final whistle he assessed his year in an interview to Hajrálilák.hu.

Vasiljevic: I knew I will score

Dusan Vasiljevic scored four goals in his last five appearances, perhaps the most important one was the penalty against Ferencváros. The midfielder was still a little disappointed about the resultwhen he gave a short interview to HajráLilák.hu, but he also admitted that they didn't deserve the victory, mainly beacuse of the poor first half performance.

Újpest FC - Ferencváros 1-1

Two of Hungarian football's most succesful and well-known teams played against each other for the 210th time on Saturday. The so-called derby is usually the most anticipated match of any season. It was the same case this year, almost ten thousand fans attended the game. However, apart from short periods, the two teams didn't play in an entertaining way. Ferencváros scored after a corner kick, while Újpest didn't really pose a threat to the away goal. In the second half the away side concentrated only on killing the football, so the equalizer was more or less justified, although the penatly might have been a dubious decision by the referre. This draw means that Újpest still remains unbeaten on home derby matches since 2000.

Vermes: I feel like a footballer again

Altough the second team of Újpest FC got demolished by Mezőkövesd (0-3), there was something to be glad about. Krisztián Vermes played again in a professional football match after 518 days. The 26-year old captain gave a short interview to the official website of the club.

ZTE-Újpest 1-1

We travelled to Zalaegerszeg in the 27th round of the Hungarian League. The opponent team is the last in the championship and gained its firts victory this season in the previous round. The two teams produced a very boring first half but in the beginning of the second half the home team immediately gained the  goods on us. In the 76th minute Vasiljevic equalized the result from penalty. After this, Újpest tried everything to win but there were no more goals in the game so the result was 1-1.

Újpest - Vasas 2-0

The game between Újpest and Vasas on Saturday was crucial for both teams. The home side needed all 3 points to finally put all relegation fears behind, while Vasas knew that a defeat may mean that they go under at the end of the season. The first half's most memorable moments were sad injuries for the home team. There was much more football after the break. The referee awarded a penatly for both side, but only Újpest could live with the chance. Lipták decided the final outcome with a spectaculat goal, thus making Vasas's situation even harder.

Simon got injured again

Marc Leliévre had to replace three players during the game against Vasas in the first 40 minutes. The worst injury was Krisztián Simon’s whose solebone broke again so he is not going to play this season any more. The striker will be in plaster in the next five weeks.

Haladás-Újpest 1-1

We travelled to Szombathely in the 25th round of the Hungarian League. Everybody was waiting for this contest confidently, since we beat Budapest Honvéd last week at home and this success could have given impetus to the team. Despite all these things, Haladás already had an edge on us in the 12th minute, after Kenesei had sent Nagy’s pass immediately into the goal, his bomb cracked from the upper goalpost behind the goal line.

Duchatalet would buy the stadium too

Roderick Duchatelet, the member of one of the richest families in Belgium, bought the economic company that operates Újpest FC. His mood for investment unabated in the last few months, the businessman is making further plans. One could hear that he also wants to buy Szusza Ferenc Stadium. Press Review: Nemzeti Sport

Leliévre stays until summer

Now it is certain that Hugo Broos won't be the head coach of Újpest, he only visited the team and Hungary as a scout. Roderick Duchatelet, the club's owner told the press that there won't be a new head coach until the season ends, until then Marc Leliévre (former assistant coach) will occupy this position. Duchatelet also said that he is in talks with Hungarian and Belgian managers alike, one of them could be a long-term choice from the summer.

Újpest FC - Honvéd 2-0

The rivalry between Újpest and Honvéd looks back to a long history and the clashes of these two are always highly anticipated by fans on either side. This time Újpest proved to be the better team by two goals. Honvéd had a chance to equalize after the first one when the referee awarded them a justified penalty, but Ivancsics missed from the spot miserably. Both of the home goals happened after grave mistakes from the Honvéd defenders, however the win is undisputedly deserved.

Belgian star manager might arrive

Many names has been around since Zoran Spisljak resigned on Wednesday. Most of the rumours are about Hungarian managers, with and without strong connection to Újpest alike. Now a completely new "contestant" entered the virtual competition for the head coach postion. According to Nemzeti Sport, a Belgian manager, Hugo Broos is the newest candidate .He has been voted as Manager of the Year four times in Belgium and has worked in the staff of FC Bruges and Anderlecht in the recent years.

Hungarian Cup: Újpest- Debrecen 1-3

We did not manage to qualify for the Hungarian Cup final after the result of the first game was 2-1 and in the second match our team suffered a 3-1 defeat in Szusza Ferenc Stadium. Following the boring first half Kabát scored from a free kick, we may have felt ourselves in heaven for one and a half minutes but the guests equalized pretty soon and scored two more goals in the finish ensuring their victory and the qualification.

Spisljak resigned

Zoran Spisljak resigned as the head coach of the club on Wednesday, just hours before the Hungarian Cup semi-final match. The club's statement is the following: "Today, after talks, Zoran Spisljak and the board of Újpest FC decided that they break up their mutual contract. Temporarily Marc Leliévre will assume the head coach postion, until Újpest FC finds the person who is the most suitbale for the role for a long term. We thank Zoran for his work, and we wish him good luck in the future!"

Zoran Spisljak: We weren't lucky

The two managers gave a short evaluation of the goalless draw between Pécs and Újpest on Saturday. Zoran Spisljak didn't substitute anyone during the match. He said it was because he didn't want to risk that a substitute player might not pick up the rhytm of the game.
